Bank Indonesia can't hide mismanagement
Article Abstract:
In November 2000, a report by the Supreme Audit Board (BPK) of Indonesia audited Bank Indonesia, finding substantial mismanagement and abuse of authority. Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid has proposed the removal of Bank Indonesia board members responsible for the mismanagment, but the International Monetary Fund is opposed to government intervention in the country's central bank. Finance Minister of Indonesia Rizal Ramli sees the need to purge Bank Indonesia's board members before bailing out the bank.

Hong Kong banks welcome latest, and probably last, step to free rates
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong banks supported the government's proposal to remove the ceiling on interest rates on time deposits fixed for seven days or more. However, the government said the deregulation on deposits will be effective only from the time of its implementation to the period ending when the country reverts to Chinese rule on July 1, 1997. The banks believe that deregulation will promote competition in interest rates among members of the industry and boost their profits.
