Maytag Corp.'s chairman Leonard A. Hadley announced that he will retire from his post on August 12, 1999. Mr. Hadley was the man who headed Maytag as it experienced a resurgence in the last few years. Lloyd D. Ward, a former executive with PepsiCo. Inc., will replace Mr. Hadley. Mr. Ward is Mr. Hadley's hand-picked replacement. Mr. Ward has been with Maytag since 1996 and is the company's president and chief operating officer.

Maytag expects to miss targets for quarter, and stock skids 26%

Maytag Corp. is expecting to post disappointing earnings results for the third-quarter of 1999. The company blames the expected results on lower-than-expected sales of its low- to midprice home appliances. Maytag posted $73.9 million in net earnings during the third-quarter of 1998. In the fourth-quarter of that same year, the company posted $66.4 million in earnings.
