Hong Kong media firms air differences in public
Article Abstract:
Observers in Hong Kong watched in amusement as the colony's biggest newpaper group and its most popular TV station recently engaged in a heated disagreement. The conflict initially began when Television Broadcasts Ltd. (TVB) aired unfounded speculations regarding the 1994 launch of Oriental Press Group Ltd.'s (Oriental Press) new Eastern Express newspaper. The publishing concern immediately retaliated by printing articles critical of TVB in its Chinese-language daily, Oriental Daily News, and by eliminating TVB in its daily TV programming listings. TVB has apparently given up the fight by printing a public apology addressed to Oriental Press.
