Hong Kong revives its arbitration business
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong's reputation as a world-class arbitration center received a much-needed boost with the signing of a memorandum of mutual enforcement of arbitral rewards between Hong Kong and China. The agreement, signed on Jun 21, 1999 aims to recreate the mechanism that governed reciprocal enforcement prior to the reversion of Hong Kong to the Chinese mainland on Jul 1, 1997 . However, a point of contention that would surely be a question mark among multinational investors is the power of the Chinese government to decide which arbitration body will be eligible to enforce the arbitration awards.

It is understandable, therefore, that courier companies such as DHL, United Parcel Service and Federal Express should position themselves in the face of the emergence of a global technology.
