Hong Kong's laissez-faire legacy fades
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong's public sector is showing signs of a shift away from free market principles and the rule of law. The development, which is beginning to affect the local economy, is borne out of the Hong Kong administration's need to work in accordance with the wishes of the central government in Beijing, China. One obvious solution to the dilemma is to increase the economic participation of the private sector, a group that has coped well with the Asian financial crisis.

Red tape prevents Hong Kong from Hiring China talent
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong's immigration red tape has made bringing in technology-savy workers form Hong Kong very difficult for fear of a flood of mainland-Chinese immigrants. But that policy has also weakened the city's competitiveness and resulted in business leaving for the mainland. The city did introduce the Admission of Mainland Professional Scheme in June in an effort to stem the tide, but the new visa policy's effectiveness is not yet know.

Bhutan's baby steps in tourism reiterate its cautious approach
Article Abstract:
The Himalayan country of Bhutan is beginning to open its doors to travelers, however cautiously. Bhutan Travel Company is in negotiation with Amanresorts and Druk Hotels with Singapore-based Hotel Properties to build high-end luxury resorts with rates of $700-800 per night. The deal has not been finalized. Bhutan's visa policy the the project are discussed.
