At France Telecom, battle to cut jobs breeds odd tactics

France Telecom S.A. is considering privatization and may face large employee turnover. Two thirds of employees are considered civil servants which guarantees them employment for life. The telecommunications giant, to encourage voluntary departures is financing employee business ventures and finding them placements in the public sector.
