How are the mighty falling
Article Abstract:
Crony capitalists in Russia are encountering problems in politics and business, with their connections eroded. Boris Berezovsky is one of those affected, and he has lost control of ORT, Russia's principal TV channel, and Aeroflot, Russia's national airline. Many major bankers face problems, and those tycoons who retain strength tend to be in the gas and petroleum industries. The mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov, has seen a rise in his political power since Aug 1998, and he carries weight in Moscow's business as well as being a strong presidential candidate.

Article Abstract:
Alliances are having a major impact on the business world, and they are becoming as important as acquisitions, or more so. Alliances are flexible and vary in form, so statistics are not easy to obtian. They have increased in number, and account for an increasing proportion of corporate revenue. They are commonly used to penetrate foreign markets, and cross-border alliances predominate outside the US. They may also involve managerial competencies rather than geograpgical areas, allowing companies to focus on core activities.
