How old is the universe?
Article Abstract:
Research at the Carnegie Institution, Pasadena, in California, has come up with an estimate of the age of the universe from data collected through using the US space telescope. The universe is thought to be older than initially estimated by Edwin Hubble in 1929. The announcement was made by Wendy Freedman from the Carnegie Institution. Her team used several standard candles or celestial objects of known brightness to make the estimate. Other researchers using different methods have backed Freedman's calculations. These researchers include Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Paul Schechter.

Bursting into life
Article Abstract:
Starbursts are areas in space where a number of stars are born together, and they could have an impact on the lives of galaxies where they are found. They may occur when there is a nearby supernova explosion, or when two galaxies interact. They may also move galaxies. Starbursts can allow Seyfert galaxies, which are energetic, to shine, and they can destroy more peaceful galaxies. Starbursts may also form part of feedback lopps affecting galactic star formation rates.

The dizziest, giddiest stars
Article Abstract:
Millisecond pulsars are tiny stars which move very rapidly. Pulsars are neutron stars which remain following explosions of very large stars. Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Amsterdam have discovered a millisecond pulsar. The researcher see this discovery as helping to explain the life cycle of pulsars. The discovery was accidental, and it is uncertain why no such pulsar has been hitherto discovered.
