How to live with falling prices
Article Abstract:
Prices in a range of industries have been falling, and inflation is low world wide, despite a rise in the US. Deflation has occurredin Japan and may occur in Europe. Deflation is a term that tends to be used for near-zero inflation. Companies in industries where there is excess capacity should not assume that prices will rise again. There is continued pressure from new capacity planned prior to the Asian crisis, while competition is intensifying due to deregulation. Companies can cut costs or seek to boost prices through innovation, developing premium products.
