The economic vibrancy of Los Angeles is due mainly to the success of small companies, which have created more than half of the jobs in L.A. County. These businesses reflect the racial diversity of the area. Los Angeles has the largest textile industry in the US, and it is dominated by Koreans and Hispanics.

Japanese businessman turned political theorist Kenichi Ohmae has announced that he will run for governor of Tokyo. Ohmae is best known for his belief that nation-states are outdated and should be superseded by city-states. Ohmae is unlikely to win the support of any major political parties.
