Hubris in space

Article Abstract:

Japan's space program has suffered setbacks since 1989 when the National Space Development Agency decided to use a complex rocket propulsion system known as a staged combustion cycle engine. Japan will use advance technology todevelop the engine, which the US failed to fine tune in its space programs. However, the Japanese engine has caused technical problems and explosions. The last incident killed an engineer in Aug 1992. A redesigned version finally passed tests in late Jan 1993 and will be incorporated into a rocket called H-II but Japan now has problems in getting customers to use the launch due to high costs.
