Humanity on the move
Article Abstract:
New Zealand was the largest uninhabited area to be colonized by humans. Migration started from Africa into Europe and Asia, and then into North and then South America from Asia. Asian migrants also colonized Australia, while Polynesians went to New Zealand. Everyday mobility became more common following the industrial revolution and development of modern transportation systems. Religious persecution and famine pushed people to the United States, while hopes of a better life attracted them. Latin American was populated more slowly by southern Europeans. Slaves were forced to migrate to the Americas. Yet many people never leave their home towns and villages, even in the 20th century.
