Hurting hope
Article Abstract:
Ethnic hatred remains a very significant problem in Sri Lanka. This was highlighted by the bomb attack on Jan 25, 1998, on the Temple of the Tooth, the holiest Buddhist shrine in Sri Lanka. This is believed to have been the work of the ethnic-Tamil group known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. There now seem to be very poor prospects for bringing the country's civil war to an end. The government has now outlawed the Liberation Tigers, and this means that it will not be possible to hold peace talks.
