Hutchison unit starts strong

Hutchison Telecommunication Australia Ltd. initial public offering was a big success after it made A$235 million from the transaction. The warm response to Hutchison's stocks was a clear indication of the potential of the rapidly expanding mobile-telephone market in Australia. Hutchison Telecommunications is 54% owned by Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. of Hong Kong while 16.5% is owned by Leanrose Pty. Hutchison sold 29.5% of the company through the public offering. The firm is building an A$500 million Code Division Multiple Access network in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.

Sun Hung Kai, Sino Land form separate Internet ventures

Sun Hung Kai Poperties Ltd. and Sino Land Co. separately intend to launch their own Internet ventures. Sun Hung Kai is establishing a new company named Sunevision to concentrate on technology infrastructure and Internet-based commerce. The action will bring seven diverse companies under Sunevision's management.
