Lyondell, Millennium Chemicals hit by a dramatic slump in the industry

Lyondell Chemical Co. posted a loss for the 1999 second-quarter that was higher-than-expected. Millennium Chemicals Inc. also posted drastically lower financial results. Lyondell posted a $42 million loss (39.4 million euros) for the period. This included an extraordinary charge of $31 million. During the same period in 1998, Lyondell reported $29 million in net income.
