IGF AMONG TOP FUNDS RATED BY US FIRM

Lipper Analytical Services of USA has rated the India Growth Fund (IGF) as the top performing fund in January 1999. The India Growth Fund is a close-ended offshore fund managed by the Unit Trust of India. The market value of the India Growth Fund increased by 25.81 percent on the New York Stock Exchange, compared to the average world equity percentage of 2.57. The net asset value of the India Growth Fund increased by 48.2 percent in the 12 months ended January 27, 1999. Its net asset value increased by 4.5 percent in the Sensex. The India Growth Fund has invested in large-capital stocks and has reduced the number of portfolios to 164 from 216 in January 1997. The top 25 holdings of the India Growth Fund account for 74.23 percent of the market value. It has invested in infotech, consumer healthcare, automobiles and pharmaceutical sectors. (rk) (kvr)

INVESTMENT TRUST NET DIPS TO Rs1.24 CR

Investment Trust of India Ltd (ITI) of the HC Kothari group has posted drop in net profit to Rs1.24 crore (Rs3.40 crore in 1996- 97). Its operational income was Rs48.25 crore (Rs44.37 crore). Other income was Rs3.22 crore (Rs2.65 crore). Interest charges were Rs29.02 crore (Rs27.34 crore). Profit before depreciation and taxation was Rs10.79 crore (Rs11.41 crore). Depreciation charges were Rs5.69 crore (Rs5.47 crore). Provision for tax was Rs1.60 crore (Rs72 lakh). (gs)

BIRLA MF LIKELY TO TAKE OVER TWO APPLE SCHEMES

Birla Mutual Fund of the AV Birla group is likely to acquire Apple Goldshare and Apple Platinum schemes of Apple Mutual Fund, subject to approval of the Securities and Exchange Board of India. Apple Goldshare, a close-ended fund, has a corpus of Rs60 crore while Apple Platinum, an open-ended fund, has a corpus of Rs20 crore. The net asset value at present of Apple Goldshare is about Rs9.5 while that of Apple Platinum is about Rs7. (khr)
