INTRON: INTO RIGHTS
Article Abstract:
Intron Ltd (IL), producer of the Electrolux brand of washing machines, plans to come out with a rights offer in the ratio of 1:1, aggregating Rs16.27 crore. This is to partly meet its working capital requirement of Rs20 crore. The company suffered a net loss of Rs1.33 crore on sales of Rs1.72 crore in the first 6 months ended September 1997 against a net loss of Rs6.30 crore for 15 months ended March 1997. It has projected sales of Rs6.84 crore and a net loss of Rs4.65 crore for 1997-98. The proposed rights issue will increase its equity base to Rs32.54 crore from Rs16.27 crore now. Electrolux AB of Sweden, the promoter of the company, plans to increase its stake to 74.21 percent after the rights issue. The IL scrip is now quoted at Rs6.50 per share. (khr)

Twenty-four industrial segments have been able to post over 10 percent growth in their sales during April-September 1998 despite the sluggishness of the economy in India. In the first half of 1998-99 the sales, compared to those in the same period of 1997- 98, of air-conditioners grew by 20 percent, water coolers by 18 percent, washing machines by 30 percent, paints by 12 percent, motorcycles by 22.70 percent, scooters by 10.20 percent, 3- wheelers by 14.70 percent, personal computers 35 percent, software by 50 percent, electric components by 13 percent, electric fans by 10 percent, transmission line towers by 20 percent, boilers by 16 percent, pumps by 12 percent and polyester filament yarn by 26.5 percent.
