CMA EXPECTS CEMENT CAPACITY TO DOUBLE BY YEAR 2020

According to the 37th annual report of the Cement Manufacturer's Association (CMA), the cement production capacity in the country is expected to double to 200 million tonnes by 2020 AD. The per capita consumption is projected at 150 kilograms compared to the present 82 kilograms. The consolidation of the industry is expected to continue in the coming years. (gsh)

Associated Cement Companies plans to have a manufacturing capacity of 15 million tonnes of cement by 2001. The company, which currently has a capacity of 12 million tonnes, will either increase its capacity or go in for acquisitions to reach its target. The company has planned expansion at its Wadi plant in Karnataka and units at Chanda, Lekheri and Madukkarai. (khr)
