Article Abstract:
The panel on development, manufacture and export of information technology (IT) hardware under the national task force on IT and software development expects that Rs5,000 crore will be invested in IT hardware manufacture over the next five years. The Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (MAIT) has said that if the recommendations of the panel are implemented, significant investments will be made in India in manufacturing personal computers and the market share of the computers sold by the grey market will come down by half and PC penetration will go up considerably. The panel has also suggested the setting up of two venture capital funds of not less than Rs100 crore each by ICICI, and IDBI to cater to the hardware industry. (gsh)
