The Mexican province of Yucatan hopes that when the North American Free Trade Agreement passes, it can increase trade with the US. Located nearer to Miami, FL and New Orleans, LA than Mexico City. Labor is cheap so the Yucatan hopes American businesses will build factories there.

Mexican Pres Salinas's meeting with president-elect Clinton seems to have allayed some of his concerns about Clinton's insistence on conditions to the NAFTA. Clinton's call for environmental and job-loss protections may still delay implementation.
