Igor Ivanov, Russia's Balkan voice
Article Abstract:
Russian foreign minister, Igor Ivanov, has a difficult task since Russia has a number of foreign policies. President Boris Yeltsin is pro-western and keen to promote foreign investment. He opposed NATO bombing of Serbia but did not want a serious dispute with western countries. The security services and military have a great distrust of NATO and aim for Russia to be seen as a heavyweight. The economic interests in Russia want friendly relations with countries that they do business with and less friendly relations with countries that have excluded them.
