Iliad to build fiber-optic lines

Iliad S.A. is to build a high speed optical network for 1 billion Euros ($1.25 billion) starting in 2007. The telecommunications equipment upgrade project could take until 2012 to complete. The move may put pressue on France Telecom S.A. to rollout its own fiber optic upgrade.

Vivendi blasts Sebastian's proposal

Vivendi S.A. of France has announced it is not in favour of a plan by one of its key investors, Sebastian Holdings to divest parts of the media conglomerate. Vivendi S.A. said the plan would "destroy value" in the company given stock market valuation and growth forecasts.

France's telecommunications and entertainment group Vivendi S.A. is negotiating with Neuf Cegetel S.A. for the remaining part of the firm Vivendi does not already own. Vivendi currently has a 40.5% stake in Neuf Cegetel.
