Imaginative proposals should be tried
Article Abstract:
Urban villages are proposed as a new method of mixed developments. Their supporters suggest that a closer link between home, work and pedestrian movement in the community are desirable. It is suggested that inner city environments and green field sites could both be adapted for this use. Inner city sites have proved difficult to adapt in the past, and green field site development has less impact on its surroundings.

Article Abstract:
Landfill-the burying of waste, is still the chief means of disposal of rubbish in Britain. At present it is the cheapest method of disposal, in Europe landfill is far more expensive so recycling and other methods are used in preference. 50% of the waste is rubble, which could be used by the building industry. 6% of British household waste is recycled, Europe and America manage 15-20% and Japan 30%

Planning to save it
Article Abstract:
Energy efficiency could help reduce global warming considerably. It is hoped that by 2010 energy use will be the same as now, but increased efficiency will reduce the environmental problems. A radical proposal suggests that global warming could be reduced by 45% and other pollution by 75%. This would involved using heat and power combinations, reducing road traffic and general energy efficiency.
