In France, regulator faces a test: tough ruling issued in takeover battle may be dropped

Sanctions placed on Spanish construction firm Sacyr Vallehermoso S.A. by France's financial markets authority, the Autorite des marches Financiers, may be abandoned if Sacyr sells its 33.32% stake in French rival Effiage. The move by Sacyr, however, would still leave open legal questions regarding France's laws governing takeover bids.
