In compromise, BA, American will delay deal

Article Abstract:

British Airways and AMR Corp. are willing to postpone the implementation of their joint venture until other carriers get access to Heathrow Airport in London. According to David Schwarte, director of international planning at American Airlines, the offer, which was presented to the US Transportation Department, was made to accommodate rivals who have been opposing the partnership. He said AMR will delay the deal until rival airlines get hold of enough landing and takeoff slots for 14 daily round trips between Britain and the US. British Air and American have the same number of flights.
