India's choice
Article Abstract:
India is likely to have a coalition government after elections in Sep and Oct 1999, and the results appear to indicate that the electorate favors moderation. Local issues such as infrastructure provision and education appear to be more important than nationalism. The government needs more time to tackle India's problems than previous governments have had. There is hope that a government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party will be able to deliver the economic growth that voters desire.
