Information technology and initial planning education
Article Abstract:
The need for those training in town planning to be familiar with computers is written into the Royal Town Planning Institute's education policy. Many of the institutions offering town planning courses use information technology extensively. Its main use is in computer-aided design and working with mapping and geographic information systems. In some planning schools students are obliged to submit written work done on a word processor.

Conservation agency for Scotland
Article Abstract:
Scottish National Heritage was created in 1991 by the merger of the Countryside Commission for Scotland and the Nature Conservancy Council. It will have 460 staff and a budget which equates to the superseded bodies. It keeps their powers and in addition will be able to have access orders. National Heritage Areas can be created and sites of special scientific interest may be reviewed.
