Information technology in the 1990's; the impact of information technology on planning in Scotland
Article Abstract:
Information technology has had an impact on planning departments due to its many applications in labour and paper intensive work. A survey of Scottish planning departments revealed that 80% use computer systems to handle planning applications, and one in six has systems that link to other council departments. Further growth is envisaged when single-tier local government comes into being. The survey shows that computers are used more in administrative tasks than in the planning process.

Looking after Brock; badgers, rural development and planning
Article Abstract:
Badgers are affected by human developments of all kinds, from roads to housing. They are protected by legislation, but their clan structure and loss of adult members make them vulnerable. It is estimated there are 250,000 badgers in Britain, giving birth to 105,000 cubs annually. Artificial setts (homes) are now being built and the badger population monitored in high-risk areas to ensure they have enough food and space, and can continue breeding.
