Innovation and imitation in an asymmetrically-regulated industry
Article Abstract:
A prototype of innovation and imitation in an asymmetrically-regulated industry, wherein a regulated firm and an unregulated firm are involved, is presented. Regulation does not necessarily impede the industry-wide rate of innovation. In fact, by making the regulated company less inclined to imitate, profit sharing can gainfully promote innovation by the unregulated rival, hence expediting innovation.
