Integrating facility layout with process selection and capacity planning

Article Abstract:

A mixed-integer model for integrating basic system design decisions involving process selection, capacity planning and facility layout in planning manufacturing systems is presented. The model decomposes the overall problem and interactions between decision problems into manageable parts. A suggested heuristic is analyzed and tested on several problems, including the quadratic assignment problem, which is a simple case ofthe integrated model.

Scheduling flexible flow lines with sequence-dependent setup times

The process to minimize the makespan in flow lines with multiple parallel machines and sequence dependant set up time is discussed. Heuristics are developed based on greedy and flow line methods. The areas for future research are also identified.
