Integration of the human operator into responsive discrete production management systems

Article Abstract:

Consideration of human operator's cognitive abilities proved to be useful in creating responsive production management systems. Incorporation of human operator's intelligence in production system enhances its responsiveness to dynamic changes brought about by depreciation in product life cycle time and increased competition. The concept of distributed production management system was proposed to illustrate ways of maximizing a system design that is based on global specifications.

Some results of the worst-case analysis for flow-shop scheduling

Article Abstract:

A study of the worst-case performance ratio for flow shop problem approximation algorithms reveals that the ratio is equal to mean completion time over machine performance multiplied by worst case performance. The study reveals that overlooking some data may significantly reduce worst-case performance evaluation and that improvement algorithms are as good as auxiliary algorithms for finding starting solutions.
