Intensity of competition and the choice between product and process innovation
Article Abstract:
The regime of competition is found to significantly affect the decision of a firm whether to undertake product innovation or process innovation. In the case of a high quality firm, the Bertrand competitor is expected to prefer product innovation while the Cournot competitor is expected to adopt process innovation if a difference exists between their choice. However, the reverse is true in the case of a low quality firm.
