The Jakarta Stock Exchange's composite stock index has gained 5.1% since the election of Indonesia's new president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Foreign investors are watching closely to see how the PhD-educated Yudhoyono will tackle such domestic concerns as widespread corruption, an unpredictable legal system, conflicts between regional and central governments, and restrictive labor laws.
