As election draws near, the status quo remains in place
Article Abstract:
The political structure that former Indonesian Pres Suharto has established during his 32-year dictatorship is likely to remain no matter who wins the Jun 1999 elections. Suharto's political system, called New Order, has been hard to dismantle despite the implementation of several reforms in just one year after Suharto stepped down from office. The system is clearly still present particularly at the local government level.
