Lithuania presses ahead with sell-offs
Article Abstract:
An overview of privatization and other economic activities in Lithuania is presented. The country's business community has shown little reaction to Prime Minister Gediminas Vagnorius' resignation but has shown much interest in the possible adoption of the euro as a replacement for the lita. A plan to restructure Lithuanian Energy into five entities before the organization is privatized has received government approval.

Kosovo crisis prevents Macedonian progress
Article Abstract:
The Kosovo crisis has severely hampered Macedonia's economic reform and privatization program. The government's response to the influx of Kosovar refugees could reignite ethnic tensions in Macedonia, and there is fear that the conflict will even further discourage foreign investment in the country. Foreign investment had nearly quadrupled in 1998, to $114 million, up from $31 million in 1997.
