Is Germany's monetary policy stance justified?
Article Abstract:
Germany is installing fiscal measures to check inflation. Increasing interest rates on loans, taxes, budgetary limits and monetary regulation have been put into effect to rein in economic difficulties brought about by the unification of East Germany and West Germany in 1990. A forecast on the effect of the monetary constraint on economic performance is difficult to establish, since the extent of monetary regulation has not been fully assessed. However, it is predicted that the inflation rate will decrease in the latter half of 1992 but will again be at high levels in 1993.

Indonesia toughens China stance
Article Abstract:
Indonesia may be shifting from a conciliatory posture to a more aggressive stance with China. The vice-Governor of the Institute of National Defence told Indonesian policy makers that a military confrontation with China was possible. A number of events suggest to Indonesians that China has territorial ambitions in Southeast Asia, chief among them, China's expansion of its maritime jurisdiction to take in waters within Indonesia's exclusive economic zone. Others include a militaristic approach to the South China sea dispute and missile exercises in the Taiwan Strait.
