The consolidation in Canada's marketing research is in essence about survival in an industry that is going global. The acquisitions enhance marketing research firms since they have access to new research techniques. For instance, Angus Reid, founder of Angus Reid Group, which has been acquired by France's Ipsos SA, says a single lens is needed to look at a global marketplace. Marketers have to assess and measure capabilities on a global level to project a brand presence in the marketplace.

Rogers Cable's 'Dowload Rigor Mortis' advertising campaign for its Rogers@Home high-speed cable Internet service, launched in spring 2000, won the Best of the Best award at the Canadian Marketing Assn's RSVP awards held in Nov 2000. The campaign, created by MacLaren McCann, ran from Apr to Jul 2000, during its initial run. It is credited for adding over 100,000 new subscriptions by the end of 2000 to Rogers Cable's client base.
