Is relationship banking losing its appeal?
Article Abstract:
Integrated investment banking services are becoming increasingly popular among executives heading the UK's leading companies, according to a survey undertaken for Acquisitions Monthly. Fewer companies are now using banks specializing in advising on mergers and acquisitions, with more using integrated investment banks. This is particularly the case among companies seeking to establish a strong presence in the US. The key features sought by companies when choosing an adviser are post-deal involvement, reputation, client commitment, adhering to the brief and sector knowledge.

Assorted advice with authority
Article Abstract:
The increasingly demanding acquisition and merger industry has led to many firms employing a variety of professional experts to service each deal. Banks need to be able to offer a wide range of services for clients, in order to retain their business. Many banks build up teams of experts from different backgrounds such as industry, the law, accountancy and finance. The decline in business, during the early 1990s, led to a fall in recruitment resulting in a shortfall of experienced professionals as business became more buoyant, in the late 1990s.

Where have all the stars gone?
Article Abstract:
There were a considerable number of merger and acquisition 'superstars' working at UK merchant banks in the second half of the 1980s. This is no longer the case, mainly because clients are no longer very loyal to a particular merchant bank. Clients regard themselves as the most significant party in a merger or acquisition deal, and it is therefore much harder for an individual adviser to establish superstar status. City of London institutions realise that it is no longer wise to rely on individual employees.
