Italian NUMC picks up speed
Article Abstract:
Fincantieri, Italy's main naval shipbuilder, has unveiled the second of four Nuova Unita Minore Combattente (NUMC) light patrol frigates for the Italian Navy. The 1,500-yon ship, to be named Comandante Borsini, was put to the water on Feb 17, 2001 at Riva Trigoso. The vessel was designed to boost Italian Navy surface patrols in the Mediterranean Sea and will help counter the smuggling to Europe of illegal immigrants from the Middle East and North Africa.
