US eyes millimeter-wave sensor for Predator and beyond
Article Abstract:
The US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) hopes to award a series of contracts amounting to $17 million over three years for work on the Millimeter Wave Targeting and Imaging Sensor (MWTIS) program for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The contract aims to develop an active and/or passive sensor in M-band (94GHz) capable of detecting stationary tactical vehicles, and provide limited moving-target indication from a single unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at medium altitudes. The UAV eyed for the sensor is the Predator, while other platforms, such as the Global Hawk and manned aircraft, are also being proposed.
