Italian job yields $125 million fees jackpot

The management of Telecom Italia S.p.A. (TI) may decide to undertake a merger with Telecom Italia Mobile in order to prevent Ing C. Olivetti e Compagnia S.p.A. taking over the company. Telecom Italia is a much larger company, with market capitalization of $53.1 billion, compared to Olivetti, which has a market capitalization of 1.34 billion. Olivetti have made a hostile bid of 53 billion euros for TI. Both sides have employed an array of investment banks and advisers to help them manage the bid. It is estimated fees charged by advisers will reach a total value of $125 million.
