Planning for Profits built step by step

Eyremont Media is launching a new magazine dubbed Planning for Profits in Canada in different phases. The West Vancouver, BC-based company is owned by publisher Terry Tremaine. Tremaine is targetting the growing personal finance and retirement planning industry with his publication. Planning for Profits is intended for readers who are 35 to 55 years old. Fifty percent of that audience is male while the other half is female. Tremaine will release the magazine in one city at a time since the personal finance industry cannot support the viability of a national monthly magazine. Tremaine noted that the baby boomer generation is currently planning for retirement but lacks adequate information.

Slow but sure growth

Canadian magazines are reporting mixed results concerning advertising revenues for 1998. Some publishers are reporting hefty increases in advertising revenues, while others say revenues are flat or have declined. Overall, advertisers poured in C$522.9 million on magazines in 1998, up 10.6% from a year ago, according to Leading National Advertisers in Toronto, Ontario. The figure, however, represents just 4% to 5% of total ad expenditures.
