Italy's economic recovery has been stalled, with a trade deficit increase to 10.4 billion Euros ($12.41 billion) during 2005, up from 1.22 billion Euros in 2004. The major industries of automobiles and textiles lost market share to Asian products.

Italcementi S.p.A. of Italy has invented a special cement called TX Active that reduces air pollution. TX Active cement was used to build a highway near Milan reducing nitrogen oxides (cause of acid rain) by 70 percent.

Sliding output in Europe shifts focus to consumers
