Salb meets governmental criteria for the privatization of JBKB
Article Abstract:
Jan Becher-Karlovarska Becherovka (JBKB) (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic), liqueur producer, will complete its privatization in 2001. Salb (Prague, Czech Republic), which has held a 30% stake in JBKB since 1997, will acquire the remaining 59% state stake in the firm. This was decided by the Czech government in Feb 2001. According to the government, Salb has met all criteria for the privatization of JBKB. Salb will pay roughly CEK 1.3 bil for the 59% stake, having paid CEK 673 mil for the 30% stake to the state.

Salb will acquire another 3% stake in JBKB

Jan Becher-Karlovarska Becherovka (JBKB) (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic), liqueur producer, will change the structure of its shareholders in 2001. Salb (Czech Republic) will increase its stake in JBKB by 3%. The firm will purchase the stake for roughly CEK 67 mil from the city of Karlovy Vary. JBKB is well-known mainly for the production of the traditional herbal liqueur Becherovka.

JBKB negotiates the sale of its unprofitable soft drink production
Article Abstract:
Jan Becher-Karlovarska Becherovka (JBKB) (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic), liqueur producer, is negotiating the sale of its unprofitable soft drink production in 2001. If the firm does not find any buyer, it will stop its production in Otovice-u- Karlovych Varu at the end of May 2001. JBKB's loss from its soft drink production amounted to CEK 20 mil in 2000. The production represented almost 5% of JBKB's total proceeds of nearly CEK 1.1 bil in 1999.
