Japan's economy: play it again, Tora-san
Article Abstract:
The Japanese government continues to ignore emerging economic realities such as the 1980s supply-side revolution in the US, the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the constraints in government spending. Japan is determined to institute the same economic policies which include a regulated economy, fiscal-based solutions and taxation. Japan should realize that economies of the latter part of the 20th century will be steered by knowledge-based industries. This requires emphasis on entrepreneurship and venture capital activities.

Tanaka's influence endures in Japan politics
Article Abstract:
Former Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka has often been cited as an example of all that is wrong in Japanese politics. Tanaka's political power was legendary and he completely dominated the ruling Liberal Democratic Party for years. Many believe that Tanaka's influence still pervades Japanese politics as the two most powerful politicians today, Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto and opposition head Ichiro Ozawa, learned politics under his tutelage.

Politics, dollar peg in Hong Kong's future
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong, which is slated to revert to China in 1997, will continue its high economic growth if the latter does not disturb the current workings of its capitalistic system and forget any political design in the interim. Analysts foresee that a change in the monetary relationship of Hong Kong with the US dollar could spell instability. Furthermore, depositors have to be assured that their investments will be left untouched once China takes over.
