Retail change and retail logistics in the United Kingdom: past trends and future prospects
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the development of the retailing industry in the UK reveals that the industry evolved around the needs of customers that have become more affluent, discerning and mobile. The retail industry has catered to this change by providing a variety of store formats in out of town and city center locations. The emergence of superstore and the composite distribution center in the grocery segment has led to the development of a streamlined logistical system. The "information superhighway" is expected to be the major challenge in the retail industry in the near future.
