Japanese insurers are expected to be inundated with claims in the wake of the recent earthquake which devastated Kobe, Japan. These claims are expected to run into billions of dollars but Japanese insurance carriers are among the most solid financial institutions in the country. However, some Japanese insurance industry executives have expressed concern over laws which would prevent them from raising premiums to protect profit margins.
