Jaques goes from cereal to beer

Labatt North America has hired Fred Jaques to be its senior VP of business development in Jan 2000. Jaques was recently the executive VP and general manager of Kellog Cereal USA and, before that, the president of Kellog Canada Inc. He was also a former president of Kellog France/Benelux. With Labatt, Jaques wil be responsible for developing new initiatives and integrating the sales and marketing programs of Labatt.

Kincaid's Blue miscues

Labatt Brewing Company Ltd's VP for marketing, David Kincaid, admitted committing miscues when he started marketing the flagship Blue brand. Kincaid said that the brand suffered from the strategy of one campaign every year, although he asserted that Blue is gaining market recognition with its 'Out of the Blue' campaign. The Labatt brand is seen to be succeeding in capturing the 19- to 29-year-old market.

Moosehead in beer loyalty first

Moosehead Breweries Ltd is starting a loyalty program under its Alpine Cool Caps promotion. The company will give away around C$250,000 worth of merchandise to consumers who will find specially-marked beer crowns. With ads created by Hawk Communications, NB TBWA Chiat Day and Strategies International, the program covers New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island throughout summer 1999.
