JetBlue and Aer Lingus to set partnership

Low-fare airlines Aer Lingus Group PLC of Ireland and US-based JetBlue Airways Corp. have established a partnership that will allow passengers to book linked flights in single reservations between Ireland and over 40 American destinations. Although this type of partnership can be costly to manage, the two airlines state they are alleviating expenses as their agreement is based primarily on connecting their Web sites.

UAL posts $16.9 billion loss on bankruptcy-related claims

UAL Corp. of the United States posted a $16.9 billion net loss in the fourth quarter with revenue up ten percent to $4.39 billion. Losses were exacerbated by $16.6 billion in reorganization claims as an offshoot of its bankruptcy case. When the airlines sheds bankruptcy protection this month net losses will be $297 million with operating losses of $182 million.
