John Willis: threading a path through the French way of doing business
Article Abstract:
Multinational corporations often complain about the conflicts that result when Anglo-Saxon and Latin cultures collide in business, but John Willis, a British consultant working in Paris for Rule Conseil, has been successful in instilling a sense of entrepreneurialism in small and medium-sized French businesses. Willis takes charge of the companies he consults, with the primary intention of returning the company to profitability, choosing either to be paid a flat rate or to take a share in the newly restructured company as payment. The companies for which he has worked to date include Etablissements Remy, which manufactures bottle caps, the French subsidiary of the Irish firm International Language Centres, and the French subsidiary of a fastener maker based in Great Britain.

Why French Nationalization Is Slow Going in Banking Sector
Article Abstract:
The disaster predicted by the doomsayers after the French government nationalized the majority of its banks has not occured. This is at least partially attributable to the selection of Finance Minister, Jacques Delors, as the man to redesign the French banking system. Delors intends to move most cautiously in structural changes. The governement goal is a strengthening of the industrial sector in France. There is still much doubt whether or not nationalization will achieve the desired goal.

The Other Banking Revolution: Wholesalers Look at Productivity
Article Abstract:
The decade of the 1970s was one of great turbulence for the international banking community. The early 1980s have brought new technological changes and fiercer competition than ever before faced by wholesale bankers. The key to success in this kind of environment will be productivity. It will no longer be sufficient to be merely efficient. Banks will have to be unsurpassingly efficient.
